Your Account Needs a Point of View

A topic tells people what you post about. A point of view gives them a reason to care what you post.

A niche is not a personality.

"Crypto."

"Design."

"AI."

"Startups."

Cool. There are six million other accounts posting the same nouns.

What makes an account recognizable is usually not the subject. It is the filter.

Two people can watch the exact same thing happen and notice completely different parts of it. One sees the technology. One sees the status game around the technology. One cares about the money. One notices that every founder suddenly started using the same profile-photo style three weeks after one account went viral.

That difference is the account.

I think this is why so many technically useful pages are impossible to remember. They collect information without having any relationship to it. Every post could have been written by whoever happened to log in that morning.

There is no "of course this account would post that."

That sentence is probably the test.

A point of view doesn't mean forcing a hot take onto everything. That gets exhausting fast. It can be quieter than that. Maybe the account is unusually skeptical. Maybe it only cares about tiny interface details. Maybe it treats every new trend as a social experiment. Maybe it has a weakness for terrible internet businesses. Maybe it is permanently fascinated by people pretending to be richer than they are.

You start to recognize what the account notices.

That is much more useful than picking five content pillars and rotating through them like a restaurant menu.

The good accounts become filters.

Eventually you don't follow them because you need more information about a subject. You follow because you want to see what that specific person or character thinks is worth noticing.

The internet has no shortage of information.

It has a shortage of interesting filters.
